Rich Anderson, Facility Operations Trades Supervisor at the Eastern Nebraska Research, Extension and Education Center (ENREEC), was recently awarded the University of Nebraska Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR) Exemplary Service Award. He was recognized for his dedication and service that has been instrumental in supporting both the research and educational goals of ENREEC and IANR. The Exemplary Service Award recognizes employees who have made significant and sustained contributions to the university during their career.
Over his 43-year tenure, he has overseen a team of skilled professionals, including master electricians, carpenters, plumbers, heavy equipment operators, and landscaping assistants. This team ensures that essential services such as electrical, natural gas, propane, water, and communications are maintained without interruption. Nominators state that his work has been crucial to not only to daily operations running smoothly, but also in the success of significant projects like N-Farms, the Klosterman Feedlot Innovation Center, and Eddy covariance systems. His institutional knowledge and project history have proved to be valuable assets.
Rich’s commitment to the University of Nebraska is evident through his professional expertise and his personal dedication to the center’s mission. Known for his strong work ethic, he often goes above and beyond to ensure that research and education proceed smoothly. His leadership has played a pivotal role in maintaining the infrastructure necessary for the center's operations, which include nearly 10,000 acres, over 100 buildings, a municipal water system and 24+ miles of roads.
Throughout his career, he has demonstrated exceptional leadership as the facilities management supervisor, working with a cohesive team that handles repairs, new construction, and daily maintenance at ENREEC. Even during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and extreme weather events, he and the facilities operations team ensure the continuity of research projects and the well-being of the facility's livestock. His unwavering determination and problem-solving ability have been key to overcoming obstacles, consistently finding ways to complete projects and maintain operational excellence at ENREEC.
Sarah Hansen was the recipient of the IANR Outstanding Employee Award. Sarah has a pivotal leadership and functional role as Business Manager in the Greater Nebraska Business Center (GNBC), which supports the University of Nebraska Research, Extension, and Education Centers and 83 Nebraska Extension offices statewide. The Outstanding Employee Award recognizes employees who go above and beyond their job responsibilities.
As one of three business managers, Sarah plays a crucial role in the financial and operational success of the centers, extending her expertise to agricultural labs and 83 Nebraska Extension offices statewide. Nominators state that her professionalism, dedication, and caring nature have significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of operations across the state.
